I just got this incredibly fast (60 fps, I think) epaper monitor and, although I have not fully tried it out yet, here are a few first impressions:

1) the obvious, it's a dev kit! So it has absolutely no casing, it is very 'raw' (see pictures). I needed video usb-c to usb-c cable to make it work, normal usb-c cable were not enough. And I had to update the firmware (lms one shorted that with the links to the right repo).

2) it's only a monitor, not a full tablet, but that also means, IT'S A MONITOR! So you can turn you laptop into an EREADER! Or a raspberry Pi! Or a phone? Maybe? probably?

3) the screen has a very 'glassy' and 'reflecty' glass cover. I think a matte PET protective could improve it's feel a lot. The little research I did, lead me to think that it is not that easy to add a very nice, e-reader/epaper cover feel to it (but I might just be missing some obvious solution.).

4) it is actually very fast. It is much faster then the reMarkable paper pro (even if I made custom software to push the reMarkable screen).

5) there are many modes on the monitor and they will get some getting used to. Sometimes, there is a lot of ghosting and the 'refresh' is not activating, but it seems to be when I used the wrong mode for the wrong activity. I made a custom WYSIWYG text editor for Eink and this software (shows in the video below) forces a full refresh via a 'flashing' and it looks a lot better then Google docs looked on my quick test. I hope, but am not sure yet, that the monitor's mode are drivable from the computer.

6) Some text / color are hard to read on that black and white screen. Again, epaper friendly design and UX will be much better.

Conclusion

I recommend it, put for what it is and advertised to be, a dev kit! If you want to geek out on what is possible or you desperately need you laptop to have a fast Eink display and are willing to encase the screen and don't mind a glassy finish (or having to figure out how to make it matte yourself). This is definitely a fun buy! I you expect a finished product, with pen and case, wait for the current crow d supply from modos they plan to ship exactly that by décembre, link to this monitor and the upcoming more fully assembled product below.

Stay tune on me trying to make it more matte and bring touch and pen to it! And, hopefully, after, an even more magical Tom's Riddle notebook and more!(this is full text, you don't need to open that link!)

you will never be happier if you just ask for what you want directly & politely. or if you’re an artist weaving this question in an elegant but indirect way. there are mechanics where you can be so elegant that the other person will answer you without knowing that they actually revealed their position. you have to be kind of a verbal magician here to pull it off well though & if you fuck up, you’ll be in a worse position. most ppl should stick to the former.
